Welcome to
Eisenwurzen Hunting
We offer the opportunity to hunt a wide range of wild animals in the Lower Austrian and Styrian Chalk Alps, an experience which we can tailor to your exact needs. Our reserves are situated between the Chalk Alps and Ötscher-Tormäuer National Parks at roughly 600m-1900m above sea level.
The family-owned hunting reserve and forest is run by brothers Martin and Rudolf Scheuchel. Further hunting opportunities on other reserves in the region are also available.
The brothers’ beautifully kept reserve is a shining example of not only the finest specialist hunting and forestry skills but also a true love for nature that has been passed down through the generations; qualities which have ensured an above-average frequency of wild animals in the area, that thrive in the immaculately kept and well developed forest.
Our many years of experience, passion for hunting and the way in which we tailor our services to each individual guarantee that every hunt is an experience to remember.
We look forward to welcoming you at Eisenwurzen Hunting!

Hunting
We offer the special opportunity to hunt red deer, mouflon, chamois and roe deer in our plentiful hunting reserve in the Eisenwurzen region.
We use three hunting methods: tracking animals on-foot, shooting from a raised hide or the battue method (enticing the animals into the open).
Dax von Zenos, a trained German Shorthaired Pointer, as well as off road vehicles and a quadbike are available in order to assist with a hunt.
Weapons of all common calibres are available to rent in-house.
Hunting passes are issued efficiently through the authorities, so long as you have a valid hunting license from your own country and a passport photo. Guest hunting passes are issued to the according reserve.
We hunt in the wild and on protected reserves and thus tailor our approach to the desires of each and every guest.
If required for a certain hunt, it is also possible to stay overnight in a hunting hut.
Our Wild Game
Red Deer
The red deer is the largest hooved game in central Europe. The deer, with its majestic posture, can be hunted from 1st August until 15th January. It resides in the forest, meadows or on mountain pastures.
Rutting season: from the second week of September until the start of October
Hunting season: 1st August until 15th January
Female hunting season: 1st June until 31st December
Mouflon
Mouflon are very social creatures and live together in large packs. They are extremely robust and commonly move between valleys and the mid-high mountains.
Rutting season: October until November
Hunting season: 1st June until 15th January
Chamois
Seeing the hardy chamois in the wild is a highly emotional experience. The trophy is equal for male and female chamois. Chamois favour the higher mountains as a habitat and are often met in forest regions.
Rutting season: Mid November until early December
Hunting season: 1st July until 31st December
Roe Deer
The quick and rather dainty roe deer enjoys moist meadows and mixed woodland and also lives in higher regions. Hunting from a raised hide and tracking on foot in the morning or evening is the customary way to catch a roe deer.
Rutting season: Mid July until early August
Hunting season: 16th May until 15th October
Female hunting season: 16th May until 31st December
Capercaillie
The largest grouse in our Alps weighs 4-5kg and is also called “Urhahn” or big grouse. It has a magnificent, shimmering black, brown and green feather coat. It favours clearings and open forest in the mid-mountains. In mating season, its mating calls can be heard in the forest early in the morning.
Lekking season: Mid-April to the end of May
Hunting season for male: May 1 until May 31
Blackcock
The blackcock, also known as the small grouse or the “Spielhahn”, also belongs to the grouse family. Its favoured habitat is the mid- to high-mountains. Its glimmering blue and black feather coat will impress any hunter. In hunting season its mating calls can be heard like a symphony in the forest.
Lekking season: May until June
Hunting season for male: May 1 until May 31
Alpine Buck
The Alpine buck is the king of the high mountains and a master of climbing. The sallow, light brown colour of its coat and the curved crescent shaped horn give the Alpine buck a fine character.
Rutting season: November until December
Hunting season: 1st September until 31st January
